About the Role

We are seeking a PostgreSQL Database Administrator with hands-on experience supporting production database environments. The role focuses on PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, monitoring, backup and recovery, replication, and production incident management, with a strong emphasis on database reliability and availability.

Job Description

The role involves providing L1/L2 production support for PostgreSQL environments, including database monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and incident resolution. You will perform routine DBA activities such as backups, restores, patching, upgrades, replication management, and capacity planning.

You will also monitor database health using Grafana and Prometheus or similar tools, investigate performance issues, optimize queries and indexes, and support high-availability and disaster-recovery environments. The position requires close collaboration with development, infrastructure, and on-call teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide L1/L2 production support for PostgreSQL databases, including monitoring and incident resolution.
• Perform backups, restores, patching, upgrades, replication management, and capacity planning.
• Monitor database health and performance using Grafana, Prometheus, or similar tools.
• Troubleshoot slow queries, locking, deadlocks, indexing issues, and other performance bottlenecks.
• Manage database users, roles, and permissions according to security best practices.
• Support high availability, streaming replication, failover, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Collaborate with development teams on schema changes, migrations, and query reviews.
• Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and production documentation.

Required Skills

• PostgreSQL Database Administration
• 3–6 years of hands-on PostgreSQL DBA experience in production support environments.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, replication, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Backup and recovery using pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL-based backups, pgBackRest, or Barman.
• Grafana and Prometheus or similar database monitoring tools.
• Linux system administration relevant to database operations.
• Strong SQL skills, including query review and optimization.
• Production incident troubleshooting and resolution.
• High availability and disaster recovery concepts.

Preferred / Good to Have

• Citus distributed PostgreSQL extension for sharding and horizontal scaling.
• Python for automation scripts, monitoring tools, or maintenance utilities.
• Cloud-managed PostgreSQL services such as AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or GCP Cloud SQL.
• Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Connection pooling tools such as PgBouncer or Pgpool-II.
• ITIL or incident management processes.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should have 3–6 years of production PostgreSQL DBA experience with strong expertise in database administration, performance tuning, monitoring, replication, and recovery. The candidate should be proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with engineering, infrastructure, and on-call teams in a fast-paced production support environment.
