Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Lead Concept Artist with exceptional artistic taste, strong creative leadership skills, and a passion for establishing compelling visual identities for game worlds and characters.
We believe great concept art is more than producing beautiful images. It is about solving design challenges, communicating ideas clearly, and defining a visual direction that inspires the entire production team.
As part of our creative team, you will work closely with Art Directors and artists to shape artistic direction, establish visual benchmarks, and ensure that concepts translate effectively into production.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who combines outstanding concept art skills with the ability to guide artists, make confident artistic decisions, and elevate the overall quality of the team's work.
Key Responsibilities
Concept Art & Visual Direction
Lead concept art development across characters, environments, props, and other game content.
Translate creative briefs, narrative ideas, and gameplay requirements into compelling visual concepts.
Establish clear visual language, shape design, composition, color palettes, and artistic consistency.
Create key art explorations, sketches, paintovers, and production-ready concept designs.
Develop visual references and artistic benchmarks to guide 2D and 3D production.
Hands-On Artistic Leadership
Actively contribute to concept production while supporting and mentoring other artists.
Provide high-quality paintovers, design explorations, and actionable artistic feedback.
Review concept work and identify opportunities to improve appeal, readability, originality, and design quality.
Guide artists through visual exploration, iteration, and production challenges.
Help establish art guidelines, workflows, and quality standards across the concept team.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Collaborate with Art Directors, Game Designers, Character Artists, Environment Artists, and Technical Artists.
Ensure concept designs consider production feasibility, gameplay readability, and technical requirements.
Maintain consistency between early visual exploration and final in-game presentation.
Communicate artistic decisions clearly and proactively across distributed teams.
Take ownership of concept quality and contribute solutions to creative challenges.
Requirements
6+ years of professional experience in concept art for game development.
Proven experience as a Lead Concept Artist, Senior Concept Artist with leadership responsibilities, or equivalent.
Experience contributing to commercially released game productions.
Exceptional portfolio demonstrating outstanding artistic fundamentals, design thinking, and visual storytelling.
Strong understanding of composition, color, lighting, perspective, anatomy, and shape language.
Ability to establish and maintain a cohesive artistic style across different content types.
Excellent hands-on painting, sketching, and visual exploration skills.
Experience mentoring artists and providing clear, actionable feedback.
Ability to translate abstract ideas into production-ready designs.
Strong communication skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
Fluency in English.
Bonus Skills
Strong background in stylized game art and visual development.
Experience creating characters with distinctive personalities and emotional appeal.
Experience with simplified, pixel-inspired, or highly stylized aesthetics.
Understanding of Unity3D or Unreal Engine production pipelines.
Experience with Blender or other 3D tools for concept exploration.
Experience supporting Art Directors on large, multidisciplinary productions.
Previous experience in cross-studio co-development.
