We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Native Mobile to join the App Infra team within the Consumer & Business group. This team is executing a greenfield rewrite of Coinbase's retail mobile app from React Native to native Swift and Kotlin, using AI-assisted code generation to deliver a dramatically faster, higher-quality experience for millions of customers. You'll bring deep iOS or Android expertise to build core app surfaces, contribute to the design of Coinbase’s native mobile agentic workflow, and contribute to the foundation of Coinbase’s future mobile platform as product teams onboard to the native codebase.

What you'll do:

• Own the development of core app surfaces in Swift and Kotlin, translating existing React Native flows into performant native implementations that meet strict performance budgets, and setting the project-level quality bar through code and design reviews.
• Build within the AI-assisted code generation loop, orchestrating AI as a force multiplier by leveraging LLM-driven translation while applying native mobile expertise to validate architecture, catch edge cases, and ensure production-quality outputs.
• Accelerate every other Frontend engineer at Coinbase by defining architectural patterns, improving build speeds, and defining optimal development workflows.
• Partner with product teams during onboarding to review native PRs, challenge suboptimal patterns, and attack slow paths the team has accepted, such as flaky tests, painful deploys, or ambiguous handoffs between native and React Native codebases.

• Drive performance optimization across device tiers, architecting robust solutions through trade-off analysis to eliminate loading indicators, scroll jank, and stall counts, with particular attention to low-end Android devices.
• Contribute to the dual-app parity strategy during the transition period, identifying and killing technical debt that matters while ensuring feature and bug fix synchronization between codebases.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of iOS or Android mobile software engineering experience (Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android).
• Demonstrated ability to build and ship performant mobile applications with a focus on frame stability, cold start optimization, and responsive UI across diverse device populations.
• Proficiency in Swift or Kotlin with working knowledge of the other, and willingness to develop cross-platform fluency, as engineers on this team own both iOS and Android.
• Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and release processes, with a track record of delivering project-level outcomes that compound beyond the immediate cycle.
• Uses generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable gains in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual base salary for this position can range as detailed below. Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility and benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).

Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $186,065—$218,900 USD
