Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Pixel Artist with exceptional artistic taste and a passion for creating distinctive, expressive, and visually memorable pixel art for game development.
We believe great pixel art is more than working with a limited number of pixels. Every shape, color, and detail should serve a purpose, communicating personality, readability, and visual identity through carefully considered design.
In this role, you will create high-quality pixel art assets and help establish a cohesive visual language across game content, collaborating closely with Art Directors, Concept Artists, Animators, and Technical Artists.
This is a senior, hands-on role for an artist who combines strong traditional art fundamentals with exceptional pixel art craftsmanship and an instinct for creating visually appealing designs.
Key Responsibilities
Pixel Art Creation & Design
Create high-quality pixel art assets, including characters, creatures, props, environments, icons, and other game content.
Establish strong silhouettes, color palettes, proportions, and visual readability across assets.
Translate creative briefs and concept art into polished pixel-based designs.
Create distinctive characters and objects with strong visual appeal and recognizable personalities.
Balance artistic detail with stylistic consistency and clarity at different resolutions.
Visual Style & Quality
Help define and maintain pixel art standards, including pixel density, palette consistency, shading, and level of detail.
Explore creative visual solutions within the constraints of a pixel-based art style.
Ensure assets work cohesively alongside other stylized game content.
Create visual references, style explorations, and production-ready assets.
Identify and refine small details that significantly improve character appeal and artistic quality.
Production & Collaboration
Collaborate with Art Directors, Concept Artists, Animators, and Technical Artists.
Prepare assets for efficient integration into game engines.
Participate in artistic reviews and provide constructive feedback when needed.
Maintain organized, reusable, and production-friendly asset structures.
Proactively contribute creative ideas that strengthen the overall visual identity of the project.
Requirements
5+ years of professional experience in pixel art, 2D game art, or related disciplines.
Exceptional portfolio demonstrating high-quality pixel art and strong artistic fundamentals.
Excellent understanding of color theory, composition, silhouettes, shape language, and visual hierarchy.
Strong proficiency in pixel art tools such as Aseprite, Photoshop, or equivalent software.
Ability to create visually distinctive characters, props, and environments within a consistent pixel art style.
Strong attention to pixel placement, color relationships, shading, and detail.
Understanding of game art production pipelines and real-time asset requirements.
Ability to create production-ready assets and maintain consistency across large asset collections.
Strong artistic judgment, independent problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
Bonus Skills
Experience with pixel art animation, spritesheets, and frame-by-frame workflows.
Familiarity with voxel art and stylized 3D aesthetics.
Experience with Unity3D or other real-time game engines.
Knowledge of tilesets, tilemaps, and modular pixel art environments.
Experience with character design, visual storytelling, and animation.
Experience establishing pixel art style guides and production pipelines.
Familiarity with mobile game art production and resolution constraints.
