Senior II Software Engineer

What the role does here

• Builds services and APIs in FastAPI: data access, business logic, integrations, automation;
• Designs API contracts for the customer portal and internal modules, and produces OpenAPI specifications;
• Builds the access layer to the analytical store: parameterized queries, connection pooling, timeouts, retries, caching of permitted results;
• Implements access control and data isolation: a single audited service layer, permission checks on every route, selection of permitted fields only, and reliance on warehouse-level grants rather than application code alone;
• Works on data ingestion: extraction from relational sources, intermediate formats, loading into the raw layer;
• Makes background jobs and scheduling reliable: idempotency, no duplicate runs, failure handling and retries;
• Owns performance on heavy queries: server-side pagination, progressive loading, reading the query execution profile;
• Writes tests, handles errors, takes part in review and release.

Must have

• Production Python 3 and FastAPI: async, pydantic, service structure;
• Testing with pytest and working CI/CD practice;
• Strong SQL and experience serving data from an analytical store through APIs;
• Databricks from the consumer side: connecting through the connector or the statement execution interface, working with SQL warehouses, service principal authentication, scoping the grants of that identity, and understanding how interactive versus serverless compute affects latency and cost;
• Understanding of how Unity Catalog grants and row-level rules relate to permission checks in application code;
• API security: OAuth2 / OIDC, JWT validation, role-based access, audit logging, least privilege;
• Relational databases at extraction depth: Oracle and SQL Server, their drivers and clients;
• Docker and cloud application hosting, working with a secrets store.

Nice to have

• Tuning analytical queries for interactive interface workloads;
• Node.js / Express;
• Multi-tenant systems where cross-customer leakage is unacceptable;
• Integrating external feeds and third-party APIs: weather, navigation, geospatial services, tracking data.
