POSITION OVERVIEW

The Product Owner sits within the Product Organization and is accountable for product strategy, business requirements, roadmap planning, prioritization, stakeholder engagement, business readiness, and value delivery throughout the Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC). This role serves as the bridge between business stakeholders and the Engineering, Architecture, and QA organizations, ensuring solutions are clearly defined, aligned to business objectives, and deliver measurable value. The Product Owner owns the requirements and prioritization decisions within their portfolio while collaborating closely with Architecture on technical feasibility, Engineering on delivery, and QA on release readiness.

Roles:

• Own product strategy, roadmap, requirements, UI design direction, business process definition, reporting and data requirements, and prioritization for an assigned portfolio of operations and utilization review tools
• Serve as the accountable business owner for user acceptance testing, business readiness, and adoption of delivered solutions
• Act as the primary point of consultation with the Architecture, Engineering, and QA organizations throughout the PDLC, per MRIoA's defined RACI operating model

Major Responsibilities or Assigned Duties:

• Monitor progress against roadmap commitments and adjust priorities as business needs change

Demand Intake and Portfolio Management:

• Manage the intake process for new requests and enhancements, assessing business value, complexity, urgency, and dependencies
• Facilitate prioritization discussions with stakeholders and document decisions regarding scope, priorities, and funding
• Maintain visibility into active, pending, and future initiatives, and ensure alignment between business demand and available delivery capacity

Business Requirements Management:

• Lead requirements gathering sessions, discovery workshops, and business process reviews with stakeholders • Document current-state and future-state business processes, and define functional, UI, data, reporting, integration, and non-functional requirements in sufficient detail for development to begin without ambiguity
• Ensure requirements are complete, testable, and approved prior to development, and maintain traceability between requirements, user stories, testing, and delivered functionality
• Manage changes to requirements throughout the project lifecycle

Backlog and User Story Management:

• Create and maintain product backlogs, and define epics, features, and user stories that meet MRIoA's user story standards (business objective, user role, functional description, acceptance criteria, UI and data requirements, dependencies, assumptions, and success criteria)
• Prioritize backlog items based on business value, and participate in backlog grooming and sprint planning sessions with Engineering
• Clarify requirements throughout development and testing activities

Timeline and Release Planning:

• Define business priorities and delivery expectations, and collaborate with Engineering and QA on estimates and delivery plans
• Establish milestone and release targets, monitor roadmap execution and timeline adherence, and communicate schedule changes and impacts to stakeholders
• Coordinate business readiness activities for releases

Risk and Change Management:

• Identify business, operational, compliance, and stakeholder risks; assess impacts of delays, scope changes, and resource constraints; and develop mitigation plans for critical initiatives
• Assess business impacts of proposed changes, manage stakeholder communication plans, and support organizational readiness and training/adoption activities
• Escalate risks affecting delivery or business outcomes

User Acceptance Testing (UAT):

• Coordinate business participation in UAT and validate solutions against business requirements and acceptance criteria
• Document business approvals and signoffs, facilitate defect review and prioritization with QA, and ensure business readiness prior to deployment

Release Readiness and Business Adoption:

• Define release objectives and success measures, and coordinate stakeholder communication activities
• Ensure training materials and job aids are available, validate operational readiness, and support production deployment activities
• Measure adoption and business outcomes following release

Product Performance and Continuous Improvement:

• Monitor product adoption and utilization, against business objectives
• Gather stakeholder and user feedback, identify enhancement opportunities, and continuously improve products, processes, and user experience
• Maintain long-term product strategy and roadmap for the assigned portfolio

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Consult with the Architecture organization on solution feasibility, technical standards, and nonfunctional requirements during discovery and design
• Consult with the Engineering organization, including offshore development resources, during sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release planning; remain informed on vendor and offshore delivery governance, which is owned by Engineering
• Consult with the QA organization on test strategy, acceptance criteria, and release readiness, and support QA-led production validation

Regulatory Compliance and Knowledge:

• Possess a working knowledge of HIPAA, utilization review processes, and relevant healthcare regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance is reflected in business requirements

Requirements

Skills:

• Comfortable operating within a defined RACI model, collaborating with Architecture, Engineering, and QA organizations without owning their respective accountabilities
• Working knowledge of Jira or similar tools for backlog management, sprint planning, and requirements traceability
• Familiarity with Power BI or similar reporting and dashboarding tools is preferred
• Strong working knowledge of utilization review operations, healthcare regulatory requirements, and the Company's clients, products, and workflows

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or Product Analyst
• Experience in health insurance, healthcare, or managed care environments preferred; utilization management experience is a plus
• Demonstrated ownership of a product backlog or roadmap and making prioritization decisions based on business value, risk, and cost
• Strong experience writing detailed, testable business requirements (functional, UI, data, reporting, integration, and non-functional) and user stories with clear acceptance criteria
• Effectively coordinate UAT and business readiness activities, including stakeholder communication and training/adoption planning



Education:

• Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Product management or business analysis certification (such as CSPO, ECBA, or CCBA) is preferred but not required

Work Environment:

Ability to sit at a desk, utilize a computer, telephone, and other basic office equipment is required. This role is designed to be a remote position (work-from-home).
