What’s the project?
Our client is a well-established company in the luxury retail industry undergoing a significant technology transformation. Newfire is taking ownership of the client’s engineering ecosystem, including its core e-commerce platform, multiple online storefronts, and ERP integrations, with the goal of modernizing the platform and dramatically accelerating software delivery. As part of this engagement, we’re building a team of experienced engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, improving large production systems, and working through real-world technical debt. This is not a greenfield project—it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by increasing reliability, scalability, and development velocity across a business-critical platform. About the role As a Platform Lead, you will be a senior, hands-on technical leader responsible for shaping and evolving the delivery and infrastructure foundations that the inherited platform currently lacks. You will guide and mentor a small group of platform and application engineers while remaining deeply involved in design and implementation. You will define the technical strategy for CI/CD, environment management, observability, and platform reliability, and ensure that practices are consistently applied across teams. You will help establish CI/CD pipelines, branch protection, secrets management, infrastructure as code, container workflows, and operational guardrails using tools such as GitHub Actions, Terraform, AWS, and Docker. You will work directly with under-tested, undocumented brownfield systems, take end-to-end ownership of what reaches production, and document architecture, processes, and operational practices as you build and refine them. AI-native delivery is central to the role: you will help make repositories ready for tools such as Claude Code and CodeRabbit by introducing effective context, automated review, testing, and developer workflows. Success in this role requires strong English communication skills, a modernization mindset, and proven experience transforming immature engineering environments into secure, reliable, and scalable delivery platforms, while providing technical leadership and guidance to the wider engineering team.

Your day-to-day activities:

• Working with and building efficient CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Providing leadership and expertise in supporting software and services produced by the development team.
• Helping identify, prioritize, and execute tasks to meet project deadlines.
• Following and helping refine our development best practices and standards.
• Participating in infrastructure reviews, ensuring infrastructure developed is bug-free and utilizes best practices.
• Planning and executing infrastructure and application updates.
• Providing assistance and support during releases.
• Modifying and evolving the existing infrastructure according to project requirements.
• Deploying and configuring new environments.
• Handling other tasks related to the stability and functionality of the system.

You’re a perfect match if you have:

• 5+ years of commercial experience with DevOps
• Infrastructure automation expertise using Terraform and Terragrunt
• Deep understanding of Infrastructure: AWS (EKS, Lambda, S3, Route53, RDS, IAM)
• Hands-on experience with Container Concepts and Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong background in CI/CD pipeline development using GitHub Actions
• Solid knowledge of DB Administration (like PostgreSQL, MSSQL)
• Experience with Networking (Subnets, Routing, TCP/IP, VPN)
• Familiarity with Logs and Monitoring tools, specifically Datadog
• Experience with building a secure infrastructure and familiarity with testing
• Source Control proficiency (like GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.)
• Strong self-management, time-management skills, and flexibility to adapt to changes
• Familiarity with Agile and Scrum practices
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• As a Senior team member, you will be expected to actively participate in our hiring processes by serving on interview panels for future roles across the company

Nice to have:

• Experience with Linux administration
• Proficiency in BASH scripting and Python development
