PJM Battery Sales Manager

About Voltus

Voltus is the leading platform connecting distributed energy resources to electricity markets, delivering more affordable, reliable, and sustainable power. Our commercial and industrial (C&I) customers, along with our residential and grid services partners, earn revenue by allowing Voltus to maximize the value of their flexible load, distributed generation, energy storage, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle resources. Our product is tested and proven, and we have moved from startup to a stage of significant, rapid growth. We believe in "doing well by doing good," which includes doing right by our team, customers, and partners.

The Role

Voltus is seeking a Battery Sales Manager to build and lead a team of Battery Sales Directors who contract with Voltus's existing customers and prospects for batteries and work closely with Voltus’s battery partners on completing development. C&I demand response customers can deliver more capacity with a battery than with curtailment alone. This role exists to unlock that opportunity by building the team, tools, and processes to contract and deploy hundreds of MW of batteries across PJM quickly and efficiently.

The Battery Sales Team sits within the broader Partnerships Team. You will work with the Regional and Enterprise teams to identify customers for battery opportunities, and with Partnership Sales Directors and Battery Operations throughout the battery development cycle to make sure each battery is deployed and participating in the market.

Key metrics: MW of battery Letters of Intent (LOIs) signed, MW of Energy Services Agreements (ESAs) signed, and MW of batteries enrolled in market programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, and train a team of Battery Sales Directors to win in the PJM market

• Sell batteries directly to end customers and secure signed LOIs

• Partner with customers and Partnership Sales Directors to deliver a positive customer experience through ESA execution, battery development, COD, and market registration

• Help evolve the battery offering by feeding customer and market intelligence to the broader battery team

• Iterate on the battery sales playbook with the team

Who You Are

You understand how C&I customers think and how to move an organization toward a complex energy decision quickly. You are customer-focused and detail-oriented across a long sales and development cycle, and you collaborate comfortably with senior stakeholders at customers, partners, and across Voltus. As a player-coach, you will hire and enable sellers who are new to Voltus while rolling up your sleeves to figure out new things in a fast-evolving battery market. An open mind and grit are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, or sales in the energy industry

• Proven ability to manage long, complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders in large organizations

• Proven ability to build, coach, and develop high-performing sales teams

• Familiarity with wholesale electricity markets, demand response programs, and batteries

• Comfort with ambiguity: you will help shape our battery sales approach rather than wait for a fully defined playbook

• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including developing processes, tools and campaigns with internal teams

• Experience with Google Workspace, Salesforce, and Slack preferred

Please note that at this time, we do not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires. Voltus teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location (in the US or Canada, unless otherwise indicated on the role description).

Additionally, while Voltus is an all-remote workplace, we have limitations on where employees are able to work for regulatory and security reasons. We expect that Voltans are working primarily from their home country. Working while traveling to other countries must be approved as per our Global Remote Travel Policy.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
