About the Role

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) is seeking experienced Senior Cloud Architects and Cloud Engineers to support the delivery of strategic cloud and digital transformation initiatives across its CIO Group.

You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and governing enterprise cloud solutions within Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments, ensuring alignment with Whole-of-Government (WoG) standards, enterprise architecture frameworks, security requirements, and digital service delivery principles.

This role combines architecture, engineering, stakeholder engagement, technical leadership, and cloud platform governance within a dynamic Agile delivery environment.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Solution Design

• Develop enterprise-level cloud architecture for Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 platforms.
• Produce high-level and detailed solution architectures for cloud-based services and applications.
• Provide technical direction, architecture guidance, and implementation standards for cloud engineering teams.
• Conduct impact assessments and analysis for business and technical requirements.
• Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture roadmaps and Whole-of-Government standards.
• Promote architecture principles including reuse, configuration over customisation, and secure-by-design approaches.

Cloud Engineering & Platform Delivery

• Design, build, deploy, and support Azure-based solutions and services.
• Develop scalable, secure, resilient, and highly available cloud platforms.
• Support enterprise application and infrastructure modernisation initiatives.
• Implement cloud-native and integration-first architectural patterns.

Azure Services & Integration

Design and implement solutions using:

• Azure App Services
• Azure Functions
• Azure Logic Apps
• Azure SQL Database
• Azure Service Bus
• Azure API Management (APIM)
• Azure Key Vault
• Azure Monitor
• Application Insights
• Microsoft Entra ID

Support integration with:

• Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM

Security, Identity & Networking

• Design and implement secure cloud environments.

• Configure and manage:

  • Virtual Networks (VNets)
  • Private Endpoints
  • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Cloud security controls and governance frameworks

• Ensure compliance with government security requirements and cloud best practices.

DevOps & Automation

• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
• Support automated deployment, testing, monitoring, and operational processes.
• Promote DevSecOps and automation-first delivery models.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

• Work closely with:

• Provide cloud architecture leadership and technical mentoring.

Essential Skills & Experience

Azure Cloud Platform Expertise

Minimum 5+ years of demonstrated experience delivering enterprise cloud solutions using:

• Azure App Services
• Azure Functions
• Azure Logic Apps
• Azure SQL
• Azure Service Bus
• Azure API Management

DevOps & Automation

Proven experience with:

• Azure DevOps
• Git Repositories
• CI/CD Pipelines
• Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, ARM Templates, Terraform or equivalent)
• Automated testing and deployment practices

Identity, Security & Monitoring

Strong experience with:

• Microsoft Entra ID
• Azure Key Vault
• Azure Monitor
• Application Insights
• RBAC
• Cloud security controls
• Azure networking services

Enterprise Integration

Experience integrating cloud platforms with:

• Dynamics 365 CRM
• Enterprise APIs
• Business systems
• Third-party platforms
• Cloud-native services

Demonstrated ability to:

• Develop enterprise architectures
• Produce solution architecture documentation
• Provide technical governance and assurance
