Our Client is seeking a highly capable Member of the Technical Staff - Full Stack to join its engineering team and help rebuild payments infrastructure for the $1T+ distribution industry. This is a hands-on, product-focused engineering role responsible for architecting and building systems that process millions of dollars in transactions, integrating with complex ERP platforms, and developing AI-powered workflows that transform how distributors manage revenue cycles.

The successful candidate will own products end-to-end — from understanding customer needs and defining specifications through implementation, launch, measurement, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is a backend-leaning full-stack engineer who is comfortable working across frontend, backend, databases, testing, and product requirements.

The organization operates as an AI-native engineering team, with tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, and agentic workflows integrated into daily development. Engineers are expected to use AI tooling effectively, contribute to improving engineering conventions, and maintain strong ownership of production outcomes.

Compensation: $150,000 – $230,000 per year

Key Responsibilities
Architect, develop, test, and maintain high-volume payment processing systems.

• Build secure financial APIs and reliable backend services.
• Develop full-stack product functionality across frontend, backend, database schemas, and testing.
• Integrate the platform with major ERP systems, including NetSuite, Sage, Acumatica, and similar platforms.
• Build and maintain real-time data pipelines capable of processing millions of financial records.
• Develop LLM-powered workflows for credit decisions, remittance matching, automated communications, and dispute resolution.
• Build A/R and collections automation capabilities that directly support customer cash-flow management.
• Develop evaluation systems, observability, monitoring, and guardrails for AI features operating in production.
• Translate customer signals and business needs into clear technical specifications.
• Break complex problems into clear, scoped, and executable engineering work.
• Own product development from initial specification through launch and post-launch measurement.
• Work directly with customers by participating in customer calls and reviewing support conversations.
• Take ownership of the customer experience and outcomes associated with delivered functionality.
• Participate in thorough, constructive code reviews and collaborate closely with other engineers.
• Use AI-assisted development tools as part of the daily engineering workflow.
• Help improve engineering conventions, specifications, decomposition practices, and development workflows.
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve system reliability, performance, and usability.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of professional experience as a backend-leaning full-stack engineer.
• Demonstrated experience shipping production systems and user-facing features end-to-end within the last 1–2 years.
• Strong backend development experience using an MVC framework, such as:
• Ruby on Rails
• Django
• Spring Boot
• Advanced experience working with SQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
• Strong full-stack capabilities across frontend, backend, database schema design, testing, and application development.
• Experience owning software products through the complete development lifecycle rather than working exclusively on isolated components.
• Demonstrated experience working in a high-iteration product development environment, preferably at a startup or company with fewer than 100 employees.
• Active, hands-on use of AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or comparable AI-assisted engineering tools.
• Ability to translate ambiguous customer and business needs into clear technical specifications.
• Strong ability to decompose complex problems into scoped, executable engineering tasks.
• Strong ownership mindset with accountability extending beyond launch into customer experience and production outcomes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, technical teammates, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently in a remote engineering environment.
• Availability to attend quarterly company off-sites in Austin, Texas.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience shipping production-level agentic AI features.
• Experience building AI evaluation systems, A/B testing frameworks, or multi-arm bandit systems.
• Experience with LLM-powered applications and production AI workflows.
• Experience in fintech, payments, billing, accounts receivable, or financial technology.
• Experience working with payment processing systems or financial APIs.
• Experience integrating with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage, Acumatica, or similar platforms.
• Experience building high-volume, real-time financial data pipelines.
• Experience developing AI safety mechanisms, observability systems, and production guardrails.

Experience Alignment

The hiring organization is particularly interested in candidates who have:

• Recently shipped production software and user-facing features end-to-end.
• Worked in high-iteration, product-focused engineering environments.
• Demonstrated meaningful ownership of customer-facing products.
• Built software at smaller or high-growth companies where engineers have broad ownership.
• Used AI-assisted development tools as an established part of their engineering workflow.
• Worked with PostgreSQL or comparable SQL databases at scale.
• Built backend systems using Ruby on Rails, Django, Spring Boot, or a comparable MVC framework.

Backgrounds Less Aligned With This Role

This position requires substantial product-focused, full-stack ownership. Candidates may be less aligned when their recent experience is primarily:

• Big-tech environments without demonstrated experience in high-iteration, end-to-end product ownership.
• Internal tooling without meaningful customer-facing product development.
• DevOps, infrastructure, data engineering, or developer-experience work without substantial product engineering responsibilities.
• Consulting-only environments without comparable ownership of production products.
• Roles where the candidate primarily worked on isolated components rather than owning features from specification through production.
• A pattern of very short tenures without evidence of sustained ownership or delivery
