About the Role
Matter Health is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Market Medical Director to provide physician leadership for our Massachusetts market while supporting relationship-based, value-driven care for Medicare-eligible individuals living in affordable housing communities.
This is a fully remote physician leadership position with limited, occasional travel within the assigned market for team engagement, community visits, clinical observation, or other business needs. Routine daily travel and regularly scheduled in-home patient visits are not expected.
The Market Medical Director will provide clinical leadership, physician oversight, provider mentorship, and strategic support to Nurse Practitioners and interdisciplinary care teams. This role also supports population health, quality improvement, care coordination, and the continued development of Matter Health’s community-based care model.
You will partner closely with Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Patient Advocate/Liaisons, Operations leaders, and other clinical stakeholders to ensure patients receive high-quality, coordinated care.
This position is ideal for a physician who enjoys developing providers, improving clinical outcomes, supporting value-based care initiatives, and helping shape an innovative healthcare delivery model for individuals who may face significant barriers to accessing care.
Work Arrangement
Fully remote position supporting the Massachusetts market
Limited, occasional travel within the assigned market
Virtual collaboration with clinical, operational, and organizational leaders
Travel may include team meetings, community engagement, clinical observation, or other business-related needs
Routine field travel and regularly scheduled in-home patient visits are not expected
Responsibilities
Provide physician leadership and clinical oversight across the Massachusetts market
Mentor and support Nurse Practitioners and interdisciplinary care teams
Provide clinical consultation and support through virtual collaboration
Support clinical decision-making and transitions of care for high-risk patients
Drive quality-improvement initiatives and value-based care outcomes
Partner with Operations leadership to improve patient experience and market performance
Support provider development through coaching, education, and clinical leadership
Collaborate with specialists, hospitals, health plans, and community organizations to strengthen care coordination
Help develop clinical workflows, best practices, and care-delivery strategies
Monitor clinical quality, patient outcomes, and opportunities for continuous improvement
Support population-health initiatives across the assigned market
Serve as a physician ambassador for Matter Health and the communities we serve
Travel within the assigned market occasionally for team, clinical, community, or business needs
Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or another applicable primary care specialty
Active, unrestricted Massachusetts medical license or the ability to obtain Massachusetts licensure
Minimum of five years of physician experience, preferably in primary care
Experience leading, mentoring, or providing oversight to clinical teams
Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills
Ability to lead effectively and collaborate across clinical and operational teams in a remote environment
Commitment to serving Medicare-eligible individuals and communities that may face barriers to healthcare access
Willingness and ability to travel occasionally within the assigned market
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising or collaborating with Advanced Practice Providers
Experience in value-based care, population health, or community-based healthcare
Medicare or Medicare Advantage experience
Home-based primary care or community-medicine experience
Experience supporting patients with complex medical, behavioral-health, or social needs
Population-health and quality-improvement experience
ACO, FQHC, managed-care, or other risk-based healthcare experience
Multi-site or market-level physician leadership experience
Experience leading clinical teams in a remote or geographically distributed environment
Passion for mentoring providers and building collaborative, high-performing care teams

Improving clinical quality, patient outcomes, and care coordination

Building strong partnerships across clinical, operational, payer, and community stakeholders
Creating consistency in clinical workflows and standards of care
Driving continuous improvement throughout the assigned market
