About the Job

The Employment Law Group is looking for part-time law students — primarily second-year evening law students — to join our team as full-time litigation law clerks. We will consider first-year, second-semester students if they have strong, relevant work experience at a law firm. Law clerks gain hands-on experience that develops their legal skills under attorney supervision. They work directly with principals and associates to provide substantive assistance through all phases of negotiation, litigation, trial, and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Case management of a diverse portfolio of legal matters
• Preliminary drafts of legal documents including complaints, motions and oppositions, discovery requests and responses, deposition notes, and appeals motions
• Extensive client contact
• Communication with opposing counsel, co-counsel, and experts
• Legal research
• Trial preparation and on-site trial support, as needed
• Calendaring of meetings, depositions, hearings, trial dates, and other events
• Client billing, including daily time entries
• Other responsibilities as assigned

This is a highly demanding position when combined with law school obligations. The ideal candidate is a proactive and highly motivated professional with strong organizational, legal writing, time management, and communication skills.

Requirements

• Enrolled in a part-time JD program at an ABA - accredited law school
• Full availability for *all* aspects of work during regular hours (9:00am – 5:00pm ET)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
• Legal research skills
• Command of Bluebook standards for legal citation
• Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in work product
• Professional demeanor

We favor second-year evening law students; applicants with strong, relevant legal experience; and applicants who already are working full-time. We will consider first-year evening law students if they have successfully completed one semester; if they have strong, relevant legal experience; *and* if they already are working full-time. In general, we will not consider third-year students. Fourth-year students and JD holders *cannot* become law clerks
