We're looking for a Head of Marketing Strategy & Operations to run the business side of marketing. Our marketing team went from two people to 25 this year, organized around four functions: product marketing, brand and consumer, enterprise, and growth. This is the first operations hire on that team. You'll own the marketing budget with Finance, run our planning cycle and operating cadence, keep hiring aligned with the plan, and partner directly with the CMO on how marketing sets priorities and tells its story to the executive team and the board.
It's a role for someone who has sat close to a CMO and a CFO, likes turning ambiguity into a plan people can execute, and is comfortable building the function themselves before building a team.
What You'll Do:
Budget & Financial Operations
Own the marketing budget end to end with Finance: allocation across teams and channels, tracking against plan, forecasting, variance flags, and the tradeoff conversations that follow
Build the layer of visibility leadership needs (spend by team, channel, and program) on top of the spend-tracking tools we already have, so decisions get made with numbers
Run quarterly, half-year, and annual budget planning, and make marketing's case to Finance and the executive team
Own marketing's vendor and agency contracts end to end: evaluations, procurement, renewals, and a clear view of what we pay for and why
Planning & Operating Cadence
Own marketing's planning cycle: translate company goals into marketing objectives, OKRs, and resourced plans, and keep them current as priorities shift
Bring a point of view. Pressure-test plans, frame the tradeoffs, and help the CMO decide where marketing places its bets
Design the lightweight processes and internal tools (planning, intake, reporting) that let a 25-person team operate like a much bigger one
Run the operating rhythm for the marketing leadership team: meetings, all-hands, team-wide readouts, agendas, decisions, and follow-through
Keep the marketing functions connected so plans, launches, and budgets move together
Executive Partnership
Partner directly with the CMO on board materials, executive readouts, and strategy documents. Own first drafts and make them data-backed and on-message
Extend the CMO's reach across the team: surface risks early, chase decisions to closure, and keep priorities clear week to week
Represent marketing in cross-functional planning with Finance, Sales, and Product
Hiring & Org Operations
Partner with Talent Acquisition and marketing leads on headcount planning, requisition tracking, and interview process, and keep hiring plans aligned with budget and org design
Standardize the basics across sub-teams (job descriptions, interview loops, scorecards) and help new leaders land well
What We're Looking For:
10+ years in marketing strategy and operations, business operations, strategic finance, management consulting, or a similar role supporting a CMO, GM, or business unit leader
You've owned a sizable marketing or departmental budget end to end and can talk about spend, forecast, and variance the way Finance does
You've built or run a planning cycle (annual or half-year, OKRs) and an operating cadence for a leadership team
You've drafted board or executive materials for a senior leader and know the difference between a readout and a narrative
Experience with headcount planning and hiring operations alongside a Talent team
You've run vendor evaluations and procurement alongside Finance and kept a clean view of contracts and renewals
Comfortable as an individual contributor. This is the first ops hire; you'll do the work before you have a team
You scope light and move fast. We plan in weeks, not quarters, and you build just enough process to keep a fast team aligned
You build trust quickly, from individual contributors to the C-suite
Bonus: you're comfortable building your own tools with AI. We use Replit to run Replit
This is a full-time role that can be held from our Foster City, CA office. The role has an in-office requirement of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
