Salary Range:$72,450 - $82,800 (depending on experience, skills, and qualifications relative to the job requirements)

Position Summary

The GeoWorkforce Associate I is responsible for implementing efforts to support workforce development activities in the geosciences. The incumbent will implement elements of the geo-workforce initiative which facilitates the development of a robust, well-trained geoscience workforce with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to tackle emerging scientific and societal issues.

Details of Responsibilities

General Essential Job Duties:

• Implement geophysics workforce programming and products designed to:

• Identify and attract potential geophysicists,
• prepare, enhance the skills of, and retain geophysicists, and
• increase the geophysics and geoscience workforce

• Ensure that workforce programming supports the needs of all participants
• Implementrecruitment strategies that effectively promote our workforce development programs and attract qualified candidates to become part of the geophysics and geosciences workforce.
• Carry out established processes and procedures for evaluation of workforce programming and products
• Collaborate with partner organizations to advance geoscience and geophysics workforce priorities
• Support the preparation of publications to document workforce projects and their impacts
• Support students, lead workforce programming, and present work results at conferences.
• Support internship alumni via an active and vibrant alumni network.
• Maintain online presence for workforce activities within the organization.
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary for the successful operation of the business.

Specialized Essential Duties:

• Execute programming for early career geoscientists/geophysicists in collaboration with partner organizations.
• Partner with the communications team to regularly communicate initiatives, events and progress.

Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
• Interacts effectively and efficiently with staff, community and partnering organizations.
• Provides managerial direction to interns and volunteers.
• Foster a professional culture through the use of strong interpersonal skills, and verbal and written communications.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with other team members to ensure tasks are completed on time and with best practices.
• Promotes and fosters a respectful environment for program participants.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Skills:

• Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent in geosciences, or related field.
• Bilingual; Spanish highly desired.
• Participation in science internship as a student.
• Life experience that assists in relating to program participants.

Assignment-specific Position Summary

Positions in Engagement Services will include job specific addenda that specify assignment-specific duties, knowledge, skills and abilities pertinent to the position. This is in addition to the general Position Description requirements associated with the job title.

Assignment-specific Essential Duties:

• Support the RESESS and GLP internship programs by:

• Assisting with participant recruitment, application processes, intern communications, and onboarding activities.
• Contributing to internship operations, including participant travel, participant payments, professional development activities, and evaluation processes.
• Assisting with intern and alumni engagement activities, including maintaining participant records and facilitating connections to future opportunities.

• Contribute to other workforce programming as needed, which may include the Career internship program, Field School 1 (introductory program to introduce 2YC students to geophysics), Field School 3 (designed to broaden the facility’s user base by training graduate students and early career faculty, from communities adjacent to geophysics, to use facility equipment and data), and/or other programming for early career faculty.
• Represent workforce programs at conferences, meetings, and recruitment events as assigned.
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary for the successful operation of the business.

• Strong spreadsheet and data management skills

• Familiarity with project implementation, data collection, reporting activities, or budget tracking.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing including letters, reports and summaries.

Other Requirements:

• Appropriate availability consistent with EarthScope established practices and norms; hours may exceed 40 hours per week, particularly when traveling.
