Frontend Engineer
About this role
At OLX, we work together to build a more sustainable world through trade.
We make it safe, smart, and convenient to buy and sell cars, find housing, get jobs, buy and sell household goods, and more. Our colleagues around the world help to serve millions of people around the world every month, through its well-loved consumer brands including OLX, Otodom, Otomoto, Standvirtual, Imovirtual, or Property24, among many other brands.
Join Our Team as Mid Frontend Engineer!
Join one of our cross-functional teams in Motors, Real Estate, OLX Classifieds or Platforms, working remotely from Portugal. As part of our 1,000+ tech team across multiple locations, you’ll collaborate with engineers, SREs, and product teams to build scalable, high-impact solutions, while reporting to an Engineering Manager who will support your growth and impact.
You'll work on a mixed tech stack based on a microservices architecture, entirely on Amazon Web Services, with open source libs like React and/or NextJS.
If you’re craving the excitement of tackling scalable problems and optimizing solutions, we’d love to hear from you!
Who we are looking for:
AI-Assisted Engineering Workflow: You actively integrate agentic tools (such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent) into your team's daily development workflow to write, refactor, and speed up code delivery.
Quality & Validation Ownership: You treat AI-generated code as a first draft, not a final deliverable - you rigorously review, test, refactor, and take full accountability for code quality, security, and performance.
Proficient in Modern Frontend Tech: Solid hands-on proficiency in TypeScript, React, Next.js/React Router, and Node.js.
Practical Context Awareness: You understand how to provide clear constraints, component boundaries, and context to AI agents so they generate accurate, mergeable UI code.
Testing & Guardrails Mindset: You rely on automated testing (Jest/React Testing Library, Playwright, E2E) as crucial guardrails to ensure AI-assisted changes do not cause regressions.
Ownership Mindset: Eager to understand how frontend systems work end-to-end and embrace a "you build it, you run it, you own it" philosophy.
Collaborative Team Player: A strong communicator who is open to technical discussions, cross-team collaboration, and sharing AI tips and prompt/context strategies with peers.
What you will be doing:
Feature Execution & Delivery: Actively contribute to frontend projects, building accessible, performant, and reliable UI components for millions of users across multiple markets.
Leveraging AI for Speed & Quality: Use AI development agents to solve technical tasks faster, maintain codebase health, and reduce repetitive boilerplate work.
Maintaining Codebase & Context Health: Keep component documentation, type definitions, and test suites up to date so that both human teammates and AI agents can navigate the codebase smoothly.
Ensuring High Quality & Reliability: Write comprehensive tests, lead code reviews, and debug production issues, maintaining a strong focus on great user experience, web performance and overall application architecture .
Collaborating with Product & Design: Work closely with product managers and UX designers to transform product specs into actionable engineering tasks and seamless user interfaces.
Engaging with the AI Community: Participate in our internal engineering learning sessions, adopting best practices for AI-driven frontend development.
