Data and Reporting Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data and Reporting Engineer to develop reliable data solutions, reporting tools, dashboards, and automation initiatives. The role is responsible for collecting, transforming, storing, and managing data from multiple sources while ensuring accuracy, consistency, security, and accessibility.

You will produce complex reports and analytics, consolidate reporting outputs across the function, and deliver project-based reporting solutions. You will also work directly with onshore stakeholders and assigned business units to understand requirements and manage reporting projects.


Key Responsibilities

• Data Engineering and Management
  
• Extract data from databases, APIs, flat files, and other relevant sources.
  
• Clean, transform, and prepare data to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  
• Develop, maintain, and improve ETL processes.
  
• Manage large and complex datasets to support reporting and analytics requirements.
  
• Design and maintain data warehouses or data lakes for efficient data storage and retrieval.
  
• Develop appropriate data models and database schemas.
  
• Administer and optimize databases for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  
• Maintain appropriate data security and access controls.
  
• Reporting and Visualization
  
• Design and produce complex reports, analytical outputs, and interactive dashboards.
  
• Consolidate reports and improve reporting processes across the function.
  
• Develop project-based reporting tools using platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or comparable solutions.
  
• Partner with business analysts and stakeholders to gather, clarify, and translate reporting requirements into practical solutions.
  
• Create and maintain effective report templates and reporting designs.
  
• Data Quality and Governance
  
• Develop and implement validation controls and data quality checks.
  
• Investigate stakeholder data queries and perform root-cause analysis.
  
• Identify and resolve data integrity issues.
  
• Support the development and implementation of data governance procedures.
  
• Review reports produced by the team to ensure compliance with documented procedures and quality standards.
  
• Automation and Performance
  
• Build automated solutions for data processing, reporting, and repetitive operational activities.
  
• Enhance data pipelines and reporting platforms to accommodate increasing data volumes.
  
• Monitor system and pipeline performance and troubleshoot operational issues.
  
• Optimize database queries and reporting processes.
  
• Establish alerts for system failures, data anomalies, or processing issues.
  
• Project and Stakeholder Management
  
• Lead reporting projects and manage requirements from onshore stakeholders and assigned business units.
  
• Serve as the primary point of contact for designated reporting initiatives.
  
• Apply Agile delivery approaches, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean, across reporting projects.
  
• Communicate project requirements, progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to relevant stakeholders.
  
• Documentation and Continuous Improvement
  
• Maintain accurate documentation for data pipelines, models, reports, and reporting procedures.
  
• Share technical knowledge, standards, and best practices with team members and stakeholders.
  
• Stay informed about emerging data engineering technologies and reporting practices.
  
• Continuously strengthen expertise in SQL, data modeling, automation, and visualization tools.
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  
• At least seven years of relevant experience using SAS Base, SAS Enterprise Guide, SQL, Excel, Tableau, and Power BI.
  
• Demonstrated involvement in multiple automation initiatives that produced measurable business benefits.
  
• At least one year of experience in the financial services industry, preferably within insurance.
  
• Experience working in a consulting or shared-services environment is preferred.
  

Technical Knowledge and Skills

• Strong proficiency in data modeling, SQL, and database management platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
  
• Experience with ETL technologies and processes using tools such as SAS Base, SAS Enterprise Guide, Apache NiFi, Apache Spark, or Talend.
  
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and platforms such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or Google BigQuery.
  
• Experience using reporting and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or QlikView.
  
• Programming capability in Python, Java, or Scala for data processing and automation.
  
• Strong mathematical, statistical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  
• Understanding of data governance, data integrity, and information-security principles.
  
• Working knowledge of Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean.
  
• Fundamental understanding of data analysis, extraction, and management techniques for insurance portfolios.
  
• General knowledge of insurance operations and relevant market conditions is preferred.
  
• Ability to create and design effective reporting templates.
  
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
  
• Adaptability to evolving data technologies, reporting tools, and industry practices.
