Commercial Underwriter

The role

At Insure Connect Services (ICS), we place skilled South African insurance professionals into remote roles with brokers and underwriting agencies in the UK and Australia. Our people work as part of their client’s team, not on the sidelines.

We’re building a pipeline of commercial underwriters who are ready for their next step. You’ve worked with commercial policies, you understand why commercial risk is different, and you want to keep building on that, with support, structure and real exposure to international markets.

What you’ll do

Underwriting & portfolio support

• Assist with new business, renewals, endorsements and mid-term adjustments
• Request and assess quotations, present options and implement premium adjustments
• Help analyse client portfolios and assess risk to ensure appropriate cover and pricing
• Support retention by keeping renewals on track and reducing policy cancellations

Client & broker communication

• Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, brokers, insurers and internal teams
• Build working relationships that support long-term portfolio growth

Administration & compliance

• Maintain accurate electronic records for audit and compliance
• Assist with invoicing, refunds and general policy administration
• Make sure documentation is complete, accurate and up to date

What you’ll need

• Matric (essential)
• Hands-on experience with commercial short-term insurance policies
• Strong written and spoken English, and confidence speaking to clients
• Comfort with technology and a willingness to learn new platforms quickly
• South African citizen currently residing in South Africa

Advantageous

• RE5 / FAIS credits, or working towards them
• A relevant degree or diploma
• Experience on broking or underwriting systems

Please note: personal lines experience on its own isn’t suitable for this role. Commercial risk is a different discipline, and our clients need that foundation.

How we work

• Fully remote from a dedicated home office
• Fibre internet: minimum 50/50 Mbps, 100/100 Mbps preferred
• Shifts aligned to UK or Australian business hours. Our clients working hours relate to our 04:00–12:30, 11:00–19:00 and 16:00–00:00 (SAST).
