Chief Financial Officer (CFO) | Remote from Pakistan | USD Salary

About the client: Specializes in products for retail stores, wholesale, and distribution partners.

Role Overview - Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Seeking an experienced, hands-on CFO to lead financial operations, strengthen financial controls, and oversee the transition from our existing in-house financial platform to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

We are looking for a finance leader who understands the complexities of wholesale distribution, particularly inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, purchasing, vendor payables, and gross margin management.

This individual will play a critical role in designing and implementing our future accounting processes, ensuring financial accuracy throughout the system migration, and building a scalable finance function to support continued business growth.

The ideal candidate combines CFO-level financial expertise with practical experience in inventory-intensive businesses and accounting systems implementation. This is not a traditional bookkeeping role. We need someone who can lead the finance function while personally driving critical aspects of the transformation project.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership and Reporting

• Oversee financial operations, accounting processes, and internal controls.

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and close processes.

• Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, budgets, and forecasts.

• Develop cash flow forecasts and improve working capital management.

• Monitor revenue, gross margins, operating expenses, and overall financial performance.

• Provide actionable financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership.

• Establish standardized accounting procedures and financial reporting practices.

  Inventory Accounting and Wholesale Distribution

• Oversee inventory valuation, cost of goods sold (COGS), landed costs, purchase-price variances, inventory adjustments, and shrinkage.

• Reconcile inventory subledgers and warehouse inventory reports with the general ledger.

• Analyze gross margins, inventory turns, purchasing trends, and working capital.

• Establish controls to ensure inventory movements are accurately reflected in financial records.

• Work closely with purchasing, warehouse operations, and sales teams to investigate discrepancies.

• Develop financial reporting that provides visibility into product profitability and inventory performance.

• Ensure consistent application of accounting policies across inventory transactions and financial reporting.

  QuickBooks Online Migration and Implementation

• Lead the transition from the existing in-house financial platform to QuickBooks Online.

• Assess current accounting workflows, data quality, financial reporting, and system limitations.

• Develop the migration roadmap, implementation timeline, and project milestones.

• Design the chart of accounts and financial reporting structure.

• Establish data-mapping procedures for the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendors, customers, and inventory-related transactions.

• Coordinate with internal stakeholders, software vendors, and technical implementation partners.

• Evaluate integration requirements between QBO and existing inventory, warehouse management, purchasing, and sales systems.

• Develop and execute migration testing, reconciliation procedures, and financial validation controls.

• Ensure opening balances and migrated financial data are accurate before go-live.

• Establish post-implementation controls, reporting procedures, and ongoing reconciliation processes.

• Identify opportunities to automate financial workflows and reduce manual data entry.

Accounts Payable, Receivable, and Working Capital

• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor reconciliations, and customer balances.

• Improve visibility into payment obligations, collections, and cash requirements.

• Evaluate vendor payment terms and opportunities to improve working capital.

• Establish procedures for invoice matching, payment approvals, and account reconciliations.

• Monitor aging reports and resolve discrepancies with vendors and customers.

  Process Improvement and Internal Controls

• Document accounting workflows and develop standard operating procedures.

• Strengthen financial controls and approval processes.

• Identify inefficiencies and implement automation where appropriate.

• Establish financial KPIs and management dashboards.

• Improve coordination between finance and operational departments.

• Build scalable financial processes that support business growth.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

• Prior experience as a CFO, Finance Director, Financial Controller, or equivalent senior finance leader.

• Demonstrated experience in wholesale distribution, FMCG, CPG, manufacturing, or another inventory-intensive business.

• Strong understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, gross margin analysis, and working capital management.

• Hands-on experience implementing or migrating to QuickBooks Online.

• Experience integrating accounting platforms with inventory management, ERP, or warehouse management systems.

• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

• Experience leading accounting teams, financial transformation projects, or system implementations.

• Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial analysis and reporting tools.

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with U.S.-based leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with wholesale distributors operating multiple warehouses or locations.

• Experience with high-volume inventory transactions and complex purchasing operations.

• CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification.

• Experience with accounting automation and system integrations.

• Experience working with U.S.-based businesses and U.S. financial reporting practices.

• Experience establishing accounting departments, implementing internal controls, and scaling finance operations.
