Position Summary

California Coalition for Worker Power seeks an experienced and hands-on Interim Managing Director to provide financial leadership and operational support during a short-term transition period. The Interim Managing Director will set up systems and oversee the organization’s financial operations, strengthen organizational digital security protocols, partner with the leadership team to fundraise strategy, and provide oversight of organizational activities, priorities, projects and decisions.

The ideal candidate is a proven operations and executive leader who can quickly create unified finance systems, oversee priorities, and work effectively with directors, staff, finance, and coalition partners to execute plans.

Job Description

We are seeking a proven and experienced Interim Managing Director who will provide strategic and operational leadership to set up systems to the coalition’s continued growth, effectiveness, and alignment during a period of transition. Working closely with coalition leadership, staff, and member organizations, the Interim Managing Director will create and strengthen internal systems, facilitate cross-coalition coordination, and ensure that organizational priorities are translated into clear plans and effective execution.

The Interim Managing Director will partner with CCWP leadership and workgroups to lead the following areas:

Finance & Administration

• Working with coalition leadership, drive a process to consolidate the coalition’s organizational structure, including transition to a single fiscal entity.
• Oversee the completion of the coalition’s financial systems, including identifying gaps and implementing practical systems to improve financial visibility, accountability, compliance and decision-making.
• Lead and oversee the 2027 budget process and subgrants process including the development of overall strategy, support decision-making regarding overall budget and subgrant amounts, coordinate with staff, manage disbursements, and ensure appropriate financial documentation and accountability
• Work with all relevant parties to ensure compliance with coalition’s financial policies and procedures, as well as applicable grant requirements, accounting standards, and other financial obligations
• Monitor budget-to-actual performance, identify trends, variances and potential areas of over- or underspending and proactively collaborate with staff and leadership team.
• Support the development and implementation of organizational security protocols.

Organizational Operations

• Lead the day-to-day operations of the coalition; ensure that decision-making structures, roles, responsibilities, and processes are clear, effective, and aligned with the coalition's long term agenda and goals.
• Ensure continuity between coalition meetings and decision-making spaces, communicate decisions, next steps, ownership, and timelines so that collective work moves forward between convenings, and retreats.
• Serve as strategic thought partner to coalition leadership, help navigate competing priorities, resolve organizational and governance challenges, and maintain focus on shared goals.
• Maintain clear governance documentation, include decisions, policies, roles, meeting records, workplans, and other materials necessary to support institutional memory and accountability.
• Evaluate and strengthen coalition governance practices over time, use feedback and experience to improve how the coalition makes decisions, shares power, manages conflict, and advances collective work.

Leadership Support

• Coordinate and facilitate staff and Leadership team meetings including develop agendas, sequence and prioritize topics, manage scheduling, and ensure clear decisions and next stepsPlan and coordinate Leadership Team and Coordinating Committee retreats, ensuring clear objects, effective agendas, strong facilitation, and alignment with organizational priorities
• Provide strategic oversight of organizational priorities, ensuring that key initiatives, projects, and meetings remain focused on the coalition’s measurable outcomes, and long term vision..
• Track organizational commitments, priorities and deliverables, proactively identifying potential delays, competing demands or capacity challenges and sounding the alarm when commitments or timelines are at risk

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a strategic, systems-oriented leader who brings strong attention to detail while maintaining a clear understanding of the organization’s broader goals and mission. They are comfortable operating in complex, fast-moving environments and have the ability to translate strategy into effective systems, processes, and action.

The successful candidate will have:

• Strong systems thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to see the big picture, connect across functions, and build practical systems that support organizational effectiveness.
• Strong project and program management skills, including the ability to develop plans, establish timelines, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure projects move from strategy to completion.
• The ability to thrive in complexity, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
• Familiarity with financial systems and tools, including QuickBooks, Bill.com, and related nonprofit financial management systems.
• Understanding of nonprofit organizational structures and organizational development and security, with an appreciation for the systems, processes, and culture needed to support a healthy and effective organization.
• Experience with coalition-based work, including the ability to build relationships, coordinate across diverse stakeholders, follow through on commitments, and help groups move from discussion to action.
• Familiarity with the California labor movement, including an understanding of its organizations, stakeholders, priorities, and organizing and coalition-building approaches.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, create accountability, and move work forward across teams and organizations.
• A proactive, solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to identify what needs to happen, bring the right people together, and follow through to get it done.
• Being bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $135,000 to $150,000 annual, to be negotiated based on experience and scope.

Supervision & Collaboration Structure

The Interim Managing Director will:

• Report to the Executive Director of Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance (KIWA), who also serves as CCWP Co-President.
• Coordinate closely with CCWP’s Co-Managing Directors and staff to ensure effective organizational coordination and alignment.
• Work in close partnership with CCWP’s steering committee, policy, organizing, and communications workgroups to align legislative strategy, coalition organizing, and public engagement.
