Business Systems Transformation Lead, Procure-to-Pay
About this role
About the Team
The Finance Platform & Technology team builds and scales the enterprise systems, integrations, and automation that power OpenAI’s financial operations. We enable business agility, operational excellence, and financial controls across procure-to-pay, quote-to-cash, supply chain, financial planning, and asset management. We partner closely with Procurement, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Security, Data, and Engineering to simplify complex processes, modernize financial platforms, and build AI-first solutions that scale with OpenAI.
About the Role
We are looking for a Business Systems Transformation Lead, Procure-to-Pay to own and transform the systems and processes supporting OpenAI’s direct and indirect procurement operations. You will lead the design, implementation, integration, and ongoing optimization of P2P capabilities across Oracle Fusion Cloud, Zip, and connected enterprise platforms, spanning procurement intake, supplier management, purchasing, receiving, invoicing, tax, payments, banking integrations, and cash management.
You will bring deep functional and technical understanding of enterprise P2P systems, translating complex business requirements into scalable solutions while working closely with Procurement, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and Engineering. You will help shape the P2P systems roadmap and make practical decisions about when to configure existing platforms, integrate systems, build internal tools, or automate workflows.
A core expectation of this role is an AI-first mindset. You will proactively identify opportunities to eliminate manual activities, automate recurring processes, and build intelligent workflows using OpenAI technology, AI agents, MCPs, plugins, and AI-assisted development tools. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving complex business problems, is comfortable working hands-on across enterprise applications, understands system integrations and operational exceptions, and takes ownership from solution design through production support.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Own end-to-end P2P systems and processes across direct and indirect procurement, including intake, requisitions, purchase orders, receiving, supplier management, invoicing, payments, and cash management.
Lead the design, configuration, implementation, and continuous improvement of Oracle Fusion Cloud Procurement and Payables, Zip, and connected enterprise applications.
Partner with Procurement, AP, Accounting, Tax, and Treasury to translate complex requirements into scalable system solutions, configurations, integrations, and automation.
Drive P2P transformation initiatives, including guided buying, purchasing and invoicing modernization, supplier lifecycle management, payment processing, and transaction visibility.
Work with integration engineers to design and validate integrations using OpenAI integration framework, APIs, business events, and file interfaces; establish validation, duplicate prevention, monitoring, reconciliation, and safe recovery.
Support global tax requirements including sales and use tax, VAT/GST, reverse charge, self-assessment, and withholding; partner with Accounting on accruals, intercompany, FX, prepaids, and financial close.
Own and enhance payment processes, including bank integrations, payment-status monitoring, settlement reconciliation, and Oracle Cash Management.
Identify and implement AI-first automation using agents, MCPs, plugins, AI-assisted development, and vibe coding to build internal tools, dashboards, exception monitoring, and recurring-task automation.
Evaluate native Oracle/Zip configuration versus integrations, internal applications, and AI agents; lead testing, UAT, deployments, stabilization, and secure operational controls.
Own production support, continuous improvement, and the long-term P2P roadmap to reduce manual intervention, processing exceptions, and procurement cycle time.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have 10+ years of experience implementing, supporting, or leading enterprise Procure-to-Pay systems and transformation initiatives, with meaningful hands-on delivery and production ownership.
Have strong Oracle Fusion Cloud Procurement and Payables experience across suppliers, requisitions, purchasing, receiving, invoice processing, accounting, and payments.
Understand direct and indirect procurement and their different purchasing, receiving, invoice-matching, inventory-related, and financial-control requirements.
Have experience with Zip or similar procurement intake and orchestration platforms, including approvals, workflow configuration, supplier onboarding, and integration.
Have delivered cross-functional P2P implementations spanning multiple applications, integrations, stakeholders, and downstream financial processes.
Understand OpenAI integration framework or comparable platforms, REST APIs, events, data mapping, transaction lifecycle, error handling, and reconciliation; collaborate effectively with engineers on troubleshooting.
Have practical knowledge of AP accounting, accruals, financial close, intercompany, multicurrency/FX, prepaids, and subledger-to-GL reconciliation.
Understand indirect tax requirements—sales/use tax, VAT/GST, reverse charge, self-assessment, withholding, and engines such as Vertex—along with payments, bank integrations, and cash management.
Demonstrate a practical AI-first mindset and experience building or deploying agents, MCPs, plugins, AI-enabled workflows, or AI-assisted/vibe-coded tools.
Use SQL, reports, APIs, and logs to investigate data issues, manage exceptions, validate system results, and maintain access and financial controls.
Work independently across Procurement, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and Engineering; take ownership through go-live and measure improvements in accuracy, cycle time, manual effort, and controls.
