The Corporate Underwriting department is seeking an experienced and strategic and collaborative Assistant Vice President, Commercial Auto Underwriting to join our growing team.

Position summary:

The Assistant Vice President, Commercial Auto Underwriting to lead the performance, profitability, and direction of our Commercial Auto portfolio. In this enterprise leadership role, you will partner with leaders across Underwriting, Product, Actuarial, Claims, Distribution, and Operations to drive profitable growth, enhance underwriting performance, and strengthen our competitive position in the marketplace. This is a Full-time, Exempt role. This position is hybrid or remote. What You'll Do

• Lead Commercial Auto underwriting and portfolio strategies that support profitable growth.
• Manage portfolio performance, including growth, retention, pricing, and profitability.
• Partner with Product, Actuarial, and Analytics teams to enhance underwriting tools, pricing models, and product offerings.
• Provide oversight of underwriting guidelines, risk selection, and governance practices.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing insights on market trends, emerging risks, and portfolio opportunities.
• Influence enterprise initiatives and collaborate across a highly matrixed organization.
• Represent The Hanover in industry forums and professional organizations.

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of insurance experience with significant Commercial Auto underwriting expertise.
• Strong knowledge of Commercial Auto products, pricing, portfolio management, and profitability drivers.
• Proven ability to develop and execute strategies that drive business results.
• Exceptional analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated success leading through influence across a complex organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPCU, ARM, AU, MBA, or similar professional designation.
• Experience leading Commercial Auto underwriting, product, or portfolio management initiatives.
• Experience presenting to executive leadership and driving enterprise-wide change.
