About the Leaving Violence Program (Talent Pool)
The Leaving Violence Program provides financial and other support to help individuals who have left, or are leaving, a partner who uses violence, delivered in a trauma-informed, person-centred way on behalf of the Australian Government. Join us to do meaningful work where purpose, innovation and real-world impact come together every day.
We welcome applications from candidates across Australia who are interested in permanent or fixed-term opportunities within the Leaving Violence Program. Through this national Expression of Interest, suitable candidates may join our talent pool for up to 12 months and be considered for opportunities as they become available.
About the role
As a Support Specialist in the Leaving Violence Program, you'll provide short-term, practical support to victim survivors of intimate partner violence as they take steps toward safety and stability, helping them understand the program, complete applications, and connect with the right supports to help keep them safe.
Working in a structured, telephone-based environment, you'll deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe support, using your judgement to recognise risk, maintain professional boundaries, and escalate concerns when needed.
What you'll be doing
- Guide and support Victim-survivors through the application process including gathering necessary documentation and identification determine their eligibility for the Leaving Violence Program
- Providing short-term (up to 12 weeks) telephone-based support, including regular check-ins and referral pathways.
- In partnership with the Victim-Survivor, undertake risk and needs assessments and develop safety plans.
- Maintain timely accurate notes, documentation and follow-up actions in line with Program expectations and KPIs.
About you
- Minimum three years’ experience in the Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence sector, providing person-centred, trauma-informed support that includes risk and needs assessment, safety planning, and service navigation.
- Experience in an online, call centre-type environment undertaking detailed risk and needs assessment and providing support to vulnerable people
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced environment where accurate documentation, following processes, and managing varying levels of vulnerability is required
- Able to manage complex and sensitive situations with professionalism and care. Strong organisational skills and experience maintaining accurate documentation
- Experience navigating services, helping individuals access programs, support or referral pathways.
- Willingness to work full-time Monday to Friday between 8:00am – 6:00pm (local time) as part of a rotating roster
- Relevant bachelor’s degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology or a related field, with eligibility for registration with a recognised professional body (e.g. AASW, AHPRA, ACA, PACFA, ACWA)
- Willingness to complete and maintain required compliance checks, including a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check
