Fullstack Developer, AI-Enabled EdTech Startup

MySCU is looking for a fullstack developer to work directly with the founder on building and scaling an education technology platform.

This starts as a remote 3-month contract with the intention to grow into a full-time role if there is a strong mutual fit. The first 3 months will be a practical working period to see how well we collaborate, ship, communicate, and solve real product problems together.

This role is for a mid-senior developer who can move fast, think clearly, and take ownership of real product work in a startup environment. You will work across the backend, frontend, admin tools, AI features, integrations, and production-quality user flows.

What You Will Work On

You will help build and improve core MySCU features across the product.

Tech Stack

You should be comfortable working with most of this stack:

• TypeScript, Node.js 20+, NestJS
• Next.js 15, React 19, Tailwind CSS 4
• PostgreSQL, TypeORM
• Redis and background job workflows
• Docker and local development workflows
• Modern auth systems
• REST APIs and service-layer architecture
• pnpm workspaces and monorepo-style frontend structure
• Reusable component systems
• Vitest, Jest, Testing Library, and basic integration testing
• Sentry or similar monitoring tools

AI / LLM Experience Is Important

This role is not only CRUD and UI work. MySCU includes AI-powered education workflows, so experience with LLMs is a strong advantage.

You should understand or be ready to work with:

• OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral, or similar LLM providers
• Vercel AI SDK or equivalent AI tooling
• Prompt design and structured outputs
• Retrieval, embeddings, and AI-assisted user experiences
• AI safety, moderation, and reliability concerns
• Cost, latency, fallback, and quality tradeoffs in AI features
• Evaluating AI outputs and improving prompts over time

What We Are Looking For

The ideal person is a mid-senior fullstack developer who can:

• Ship clean, working features without needing heavy supervision
• Read an existing codebase and follow its patterns
• Build usable frontend experiences, not just connect APIs
• Design practical backend APIs and database models
• Debug across frontend, backend, auth, data, and deployment issues
• Write maintainable TypeScript
• Care about product quality, edge cases, and user experience
• Communicate clearly and ask good questions
• Work with urgency and ownership in a startup environment

Nice To Have

• Experience with edtech, marketplaces, SaaS, or workflow-heavy products
• Experience building admin dashboards and internal tools
• Experience with payments or subscription systems
• Experience with file uploads and document-heavy workflows
• Experience improving AI products in production
• Familiarity with observability, logs, background jobs, and production debugging
