About this role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Bilingual Referral & Authorization Coordinator to support a high-volume Cardiology practice. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of hands-on U.S. healthcare experience across the full referral lifecycle, possessing fluent English/Spanish communication skills and deep knowledge of insurance eligibility verification and prior authorization processes for specialist office visits.

Key Responsibilities:

Full Referral Lifecycle Management: Take full ownership of referral intake, clinical documentation gathering, processing, tracking to completion, and closing within Epic EMR.

Workqueue Management: Daily monitoring and efficient management of Epic referral and authorization workqueues to prevent care delays.

Bilingual Patient & Provider Coordination: Communicate fluently in both English and Spanish with patients, referring provider offices, and insurance carriers to clarify details and resolve authorization roadblocks.

Insurance & Eligibility Verification: Verify patient coverage, plan benefits, and navigate complex HMO/PPO payer guidelines.

Prior Authorizations: Secure timely prior authorizations specifically for specialty office visits and outpatient consults.

Documentation & Follow-Up: Maintain meticulous, accurate status notes and patient records in Epic to maintain high-volume compliance and transparency.

Requirements

EMR Requirement: Proficiency using Epic EMR (preferably experience handling Epic referral/authorization workqueues).

Language: Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal fluency required).

Experience: Minimum of 2+ years dedicated to Referral Coordination and/or Prior Authorization within a U.S.-based medical practice.

Specialist Focus: Proven experience handling office visit authorizations and end-to-end referral workflows (this is a dedicated specialist role, not a general front-desk position).

Payer Knowledge: Thorough understanding of U.S. insurance carriers (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial HMO/PPO plans) and authorization requirements.

Skills: Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage a high-volume workload.

Please note that this is a full-time contractor position (40 hours per week) with a starting pay rate of $6 per hour depending on skill set and experience. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00-5:00 pm, Pacific Standard Time.
