Underwriter II / III

The Underwriter will underwrite fully underwritten Long-Term Care cases, including new business, reinstatements, and policy changes, applying established underwriting guidelines and sound professional judgement. You will also partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely, high-quality decisions. This position may be filled at the Underwriter II or III level, depending on experience.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

• Estimated Salary (Levels have variable responsibilities and qualifications):
  • Underwriter II: $25.50 - $32.00 per hour, plus annual bonus opportunity.
  • Underwriter III: $68,000 - $87,500, plus annual bonus opportunity.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Underwrite complex cases: Underwrite fully underwritten Long-Term Care cases, including new business, reinstatements, and policy changes using established underwriting guidelines. Analyze available requirements, identify additional information needed, and make sound, well-supported risk decisions.
• Apply expertise and judgment: Consistently apply company and reinsurance guidelines while using independent judgment to evaluate complex or unusual risks. Escalate rare or highly complex situations appropriately.
• Partner and communicate: Build strong relationships with internal and external business partners and communicate underwriting decisions clearly, professionally, and promptly. Participate in sales, product, and customer meetings as an underwriting resource.
• Improve how we work: Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while identifying opportunities to improve underwriting processes, leverage technology, and support initiatives that enhance efficiency and quality.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

• 5+ years of relevant fully underwritten Long-Term Care underwriting experience, with demonstrated ability to evaluate complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Strong underwriting expertise and judgment: Ability to analyze complex risks, make independent decisions, and clearly explain the rationale behind those decisions while adhering to company and reinsurance guidelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: Demonstrated critical thinking, mathematical and financial aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to creatively apply underwriting concepts and practices.
• Strong communication and relationship skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, customer-service, negotiation, conflict-resolution, and relationship-building skills with internal and external partners.
• Strong organization and technology skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, work independently, use Microsoft Office and other business tools effectively, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.
• You promote a collaborative culture, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
• Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

PREFERRED:

• Experience with Accelerated Underwriting programs.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• FLMI, FALU, or CLU coursework completed, in progress, or actively being pursued.
• Successful completion of LOMA 280/281, 290, 311, and 386, and ALU 101 and 201.
• Experience mentoring, training, or reviewing the work of other underwriters.
